Beyond the code lies the power to grow

“I didn’t come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it’s going to begin.” Morpheus, The Matrix
There are moments in life when something quietly begins to shift.
Not dramatically. Not loudly.
Just a subtle sense that the way things have been seen might not be the only way they can be seen.
A feeling that there is more to life than the familiar loop of thought, reaction, and return.
This is where the journey begins.
Not with answers.
But with a call.
THE PLANT POWER MEN — the first step
Every journey begins somewhere ordinary.
A table. A shared meal. A conversation that doesn’t need to go anywhere in particular.
The Plant Power Men is a gathering in Marple, Stockport — open to men across Greater Manchester and their families, friends, and colleagues, because your first step doesn’t have to be taken alone.
It is a simple space to come together around food, connection, and conversation.
No fixing. No performing. No pressure to be anything other than what you are.
And in that simplicity, something often softens.
The pace slows. The noise settles. Connection becomes easier.
We explore plant-based living, intermittent fasting, and the benefits of daily walking — not as systems to master, but as simple ways of supporting energy, clarity, and everyday happiness.
But underneath it all, something more human is happening.
A return to presence.
A remembering of what it feels like to simply be with others.

THE MATRIX — the deeper journey
From here, the invitation deepens.
The Matrix is a six-week self-enquiry journey into the nature of thought, experience, and the patterns we unknowingly live inside.
A deep dive into the belief system and how it works — the mechanics of mind, not therapy or fixing.
Self-enquiry can dissolve false beliefs and reveal what is already here. In practice, many explorers find themselves confused, overwhelmed, or caught in subtle mental patterns.
It begins with something simple:
Notice what is actually happening in experience.
Before explanation.
Before story.
Before meaning is added.
Thought and feeling arise simultaneously. And it becomes personal.
Fabulating means to produce fictional stories or confabulations, especially where memory or perception fills in gaps. In this context, it refers to the mind’s ongoing process of shaping moment-to-moment experience into a continuous sense of “me” and “my life.”
Self-enquiry then turns attention back onto thought itself, questioning what is actually being believed in the moment rather than following it.
It begins with a simple question:
Who am I?
Not as a philosophical answer, but as a direct investigation into present experience. What is it that is actually being referred to when this sense of “me” is felt or thought?
“All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.”— Gautama Buddha
We begin to see how often attention moves away from what is here — into memory, imagination, and the ongoing story of “me.”
Not as a problem.
But as something that can be seen clearly.
This is not about changing who you are.
It is about noticing how experience is being created in real time.
Attachment softens. Space is noticed. A quieter mind.
Not because life becomes different — but because of a shift in experience.
Alongside this, we will undertake Self Enquiry Dyads, explore the structure of language, and gently untangle the false beliefs that shape how experience is interpreted.
Dyad meditation is a partner-based practice where two people alternate between speaking and deeply listening to a repeated prompt or reflective question. Rather than offering advice or fixing, the listener simply witnesses with full attention. This process strengthens presence, emotional awareness, and self-understanding, helping men develop greater authenticity, resilience, and deeper connection with themselves and others.
“Your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world.”— Ramana Maharshi

MY JOURNEY
My own exploration began over 30 years ago with a first step into mindfulness and Buddhism at Manchester Buddhist Centre.
What started as curiosity slowly became a long unfolding enquiry into how experience is actually formed.
Over a decade ago, that enquiry deepened again through learning Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and later what is often referred to as the Three Principles, and then non-duality and self-enquiry.
What I wasn’t prepared for was the intensity of what followed.
As old ways of seeing began to unravel, there was a period of profound disorientation — moments of depression, anxiety, and a felt loss of identity, direction, and purpose.
Prolonged periods of depression and anxiety followed — what felt like a living hell, later seen as a metamorphosis of mind and identity.
Not because something had gone wrong, but because the familiar structure of “who I thought I was” was no longer holding in the same way.
Over time, this became part of the exploration itself.
Not something to fix, but something to understand more deeply — as part of the mechanics of mind and experience.
And from there, the enquiry continues.
I don’t claim to have figured anything out. This is simply an exploration of experience and the nature of happiness as it appears in our own direct experience.
THE INVITATION
Every journey begins with a first step that doesn’t look like a journey at all.
Just a moment of curiosity.
A sense that something here is worth paying attention to.
Not because something is wrong.
But because something might be possible.
A NOTE
The Plant Power Men and The Matrix are intended as spaces for personal exploration, reflection, and community connection. They are not therapy, counselling, medical treatment, or a substitute for professional mental health support.
Any insights shared are offered as points for reflection and enquiry rather than instruction, diagnosis, or advice.
Participation is entirely voluntary, and each individual remains responsible for their own wellbeing and choices.
If you are experiencing significant distress or mental health challenges, you are encouraged to seek support from a qualified healthcare professional or relevant support services. Where appropriate, we may be able to signpost you towards suitable sources of professional support.
